Marketing a business in Victoria Park: a guide for Albany Highway

We're based on Albany Highway, so this one's personal. Here's what works for businesses on our strip.

Key takeaways

  • Most Vic Park customers find you on Google Maps or Instagram before they walk in, even on a walkable strip.
  • On a busy strip, your online presence decides whether people pick you or the place next door.
  • Local content (your street, your regulars, your team) beats generic posts every time.
  • A local marketing studio can shoot around your trading hours, which makes monthly content far easier.

Albany Highway is one of Perth’s busiest local strips. Cafés, restaurants, clinics, salons, bottle shops, gyms, retailers and trades, block after block. That’s great for foot traffic. It also means your customers have a lot of choice within a few hundred metres.

We’re on the strip ourselves, at 921 Albany Highway in East Victoria Park. This guide covers what we’ve learned about standing out in Victoria Park, East Vic Park, Lathlain, Carlisle and the streets around them.

How Vic Park customers choose

Even on a walkable strip, most people check before they commit. They search “cafe victoria park”, “physio east victoria park” or “best ramen near me”, scan the map, tap two or three options, look at the photos and reviews, then decide.

That means your first impression usually happens on a phone, not at your door. And on a strip where the next option is 50 metres away, the business that looks best online often wins, whether or not it’s the best. Here’s why first impressions online cost good businesses work.

Where to start: the Vic Park marketing priorities

PriorityWhyTime to set up
1. Google Business ProfileIt’s what shows on Maps20 minutes, then 5 minutes a month
2. ReviewsTrust, and a ranking factorA habit, not a project
3. A website that matches the experienceWins the bigger decisionsA few weeks
4. Local, consistent social contentKeeps you front of mindMonthly
5. Neighbour partnershipsFree reach to nearby customersOngoing

1. Own your Google Business Profile

If you only do one thing, do this. Your Google Business Profile is what shows on Maps and in the local results.

  • Check your hours, phone number and website are correct, including public holidays.
  • Choose the most specific primary category you can.
  • Add real, recent photos: your space, your team, your best work. At least ten.
  • Reply to every review, good and bad.
  • Post an update when something changes: a new menu, a new service, holiday hours.

Our Google Business Profile setup guide walks through it step by step.

2. Make reviews a habit

A business with dozens of recent reviews looks like a safer bet than one with a handful from years ago. Ask happy customers in person and send the review link by text the same day. Reply to every review, briefly and personally. A calm, helpful reply to a bad review often does more for trust than the good ones.

3. Make your website match the experience

If your shop feels great and your website looks like 2016, people notice. Your website doesn’t need to be huge. It needs to load fast on a phone, show what you do in five seconds, and make booking, calling or getting directions one tap away. Mention Victoria Park, Albany Highway and the suburbs you serve, and use photos of your real shopfront.

4. Post local, not generic

The best-performing posts for Vic Park businesses are the local ones: your regulars, your team, the street, the morning rush, the new dish, the event at the park. People follow businesses that feel like part of their neighbourhood. Generic “Happy Monday” graphics don’t do much for anyone.

Content ideas that work on the strip:

  • Your morning setup, sped up
  • A regular’s usual order or treatment (with permission)
  • Meet the team, one person at a time
  • What’s new this week
  • A collaboration with the business next door
  • Your take on a local event

5. Be consistent

Posting heavily for a month and then going quiet for three looks worse than posting steadily. A monthly shoot is how most of our clients stay consistent without thinking about it. Here’s what a monthly content shoot looks like.

6. Work with your neighbours

Strips work best when businesses back each other. Tag the café next door, share the event at the local club, collaborate on a giveaway, cross-promote to each other’s customers. It’s free reach to people who are already nearby and already walking past.

Choosing a marketing agency in Victoria Park

Whether you choose us or someone else, ask:

  • Will you come to my business to create content, or use stock?
  • Who approves what goes live?
  • What exactly do I get each month?
  • How do you report what’s working?
  • What’s the minimum term, and do I own the content?

Be wary of anyone who guarantees followers, leads or sales. Nobody honest can, because results depend on things no agency controls, like your prices and how quickly you reply to enquiries.

Why a local studio helps

We can drop in for a shoot during your quiet hour, film the lunch rush when it happens, and turn content around quickly. For a lot of Vic Park businesses that’s the difference between monthly content happening and not happening.

On Albany Highway or nearby? See Get Online™ or come and say hello at the studio.
