The 10-Minute Marketing Time Audit

List every marketing job you do, sort each one into keep, limit, hand over or stop, and win back hours every week. A simple grid you can fill in tonight.

Most owners don’t have a marketing problem. They have a time problem. The posts, the website edits and the Google replies all land on whoever has a spare hour, and most weeks nobody does.

This audit takes ten minutes. At the end you’ll know exactly which jobs to keep, which to limit, which to hand over and which to stop.

Step 1: list everything (3 minutes)

Write down every marketing job you or your team did in the last month. Be honest and be specific. A few to get you started:

  • Thinking of what to post
  • Filming or taking photos
  • Editing videos
  • Writing captions
  • Posting and replying to comments
  • Updating the website (prices, hours, team, menus)
  • Replying to Google reviews
  • Chasing a designer or developer
  • Looking at what competitors are doing

Step 2: ask two questions of each job (5 minutes)

For every job on the list, answer yes or no:

  1. Does it make the business money? Directly or close to it. A post that brings in bookings counts. Fiddling with a font for an hour doesn’t.
  2. Does it give you energy? Do you enjoy it, or do you put it off until 10pm?

Step 3: sort them into four boxes (2 minutes)

Your taskGives you energyDrains your energy
Makes moneyKeep. This is your best use of time. Do more of it.Hand over. It matters, but it shouldn’t be you doing it.
Doesn’t make moneyLimit. It keeps you going. Keep it, but cap the time.Stop. Drop it, guilt-free.
  • Keep: usually the things only you can do. Talking to camera about your work, meeting customers, sharing what you know.
  • Hand over: usually editing, posting, captions, website updates and design. Necessary, time-consuming and not your job.
  • Limit: the parts you genuinely enjoy, like taking photos of a beautiful dish. Keep them, just don’t let them eat your week.
  • Stop: the jobs nobody would notice if you stopped tomorrow. Daily competitor scrolling is a common one.

What to do with the “hand over” box

Add up the hours in that box. That’s what your marketing currently costs you in time, every month.

If it’s more than a few hours, it’s worth handing the whole box to one team rather than to five different freelancers. That’s exactly what Get Online™ is for: we take the website, the filming, the editing and the posting, and your part shrinks to two hours a month.

Not ready for that? Start with the box that drains you most and fix just that one this month.
